The Residence
The Residence sits among pines in Yunnan, and the first thing it asks of a visitor is to slow down. A bronze gate opens onto a drive that bends through the trees, and the buildings appear a piece at a time.
(Story)
Stone walls are left to take the ivy. Bronze, timber and glass pick up the colour of the woods around them, so the houses read as part of the grove rather than something set down in it.
Inside the walls, a still water court and a glass pavilion gather the light. It is a place to arrive at slowly, and to be glad to come home to.
